KOTA KINABALU:The Sabah State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to making the energy sector a cornerstone of the state’s long-term strategic development, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor pledging to ensure electricity supply across Sabah remains sufficient, stable, reliable and affordable for all.
Underscoring this commitment, the State Government has formally adopted the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040) as its strategic blueprint for energy development — a comprehensive framework designed to strengthen energy security, diversify energy sources, accelerate the uptake of renewable energy, and ensure the sector remains a strong enabler of Sabah’s broader economic ambitions.
“The roadmap will guide our efforts to build a more efficient and sustainable energy ecosystem — one that will benefit not just the present generation, but generations to come,” said Hajiji in his speech at the launch of the Sabah Sustainable Energy for the People Programme at Pacific Sutera Hotel here on Wednesday.
His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister I and Minister of Works and Utilities, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam. The ceremony was graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.
Hajiji extended his congratulations to the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) for its sustained dedication in steering the state’s energy agenda through progressive, forward-looking and people-centred initiatives.
He described the simultaneous launch of the Sabah Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) and the Sabah People Solar Programme as significant milestones in advancing the state’s sustainable energy agenda — initiatives he said complement one another in building a holistic and future-ready energy ecosystem.
Among the initiatives unveiled were the formal recognition of solar energy projects, the implementation of the Government Lead by Example programme, strategic collaboration with training institutions, and entrepreneur development through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institut Keusahawanan Negara Berhad (INSKEN), alongside the rollout of targeted corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
Hajiji emphasised that sustainable energy development demands the active participation of all stakeholders — spanning the government, industry players, educational institutions and the broader community.
“The energy transition is not solely about technology. It equally encompasses sound policies, strategic investment, human capital development, research and innovation, and close collaboration among government, industry, academia and the community.
“Such collaboration is essential to ensure every policy introduced can be implemented effectively and deliver tangible, real-world benefits to the people of Sabah,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that the State Government aims to promote more prudent and efficient energy consumption across all sectors while fostering an environment that encourages public participation in renewable energy adoption, drives innovation and attracts quality investment into Sabah’s energy industry.
He further affirmed that the State Government will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, ECoS, industry players, investors, financial institutions and the private sector — with the shared goal of building a resilient, future-ready energy system capable of sustaining Sabah’s development for decades to come.
