KOTA KINABALU:Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (pic) said 2026 marks the beginning of a crucial phase for Sabah as the state transitions into the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 agenda following the conclusion of the 17th Sabah Election.
He said the renewed mandate given to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) reflects the people’s desire for political stability, continuity in governance and a clear strategic direction for Sabah’s future.
Nizam said the unity government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor now carries not only the mandate of victory but the responsibility to deliver consistent policies and strong administration that prioritise the people.
He said 2026 will see the launch of SMJ 2.0 (2026–2030), which will continue to drive economic growth while strengthening human capital development and sustainable infrastructure as Sabah’s primary development pillars.
Within his ministry, Nizam said emphasis will be placed on shaping proactive, competitive and disciplined youth by strengthening leadership skills, future-ready capabilities and volunteerism to ensure young Sabahans actively contribute to the state’s progress rather than remain on the sidelines.
He said efforts to establish Sabah as a sporting state will continue, alongside initiatives to expand the creative and digital economy as a sustainable source of employment and income.
Nizam added that the State Government will continue to uphold Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) while maintaining constructive cooperation with the Federal Government, calling on all Sabahans to unite in building a more stable, progressive state as Sabah enters 2026.
